    John E. Mulcahey, 93, North Haven and Gloucester, Mass

    John E. Mulcahey, 93, of North Haven and Gloucester, Massachusetts, died peacefully at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, on July 10. He was the husband of Gail (Nearis) Mulcahey. John was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on August 17, 1918, son of the late John C. and M. Elizabeth (Aptt) Mulcahey. He grew up in Manchester, Massachusetts, and graduated from the former Story High School in 1937.

    In 1951, John moved to Connecticut to sail on the M/V Excello, transporting chemicals between New Haven and Corpus Christi, Texas. Later, he worked ashore at the New Haven Terminal, Inc., dispatching imports and retiring after 35 years.

    John was an avid golfer and gardener, spending his retirement years enjoying those passions between North Haven and Gloucester. His kind and gentle spirit will live in the hearts of all who knew him.

    Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his five children, John Mulcahey, Jr. and his wife Ann, Sharon Martin and her husband Wayne, and Diane Juden and her husband Daniel, all of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Susan Mulcahey and her husband Jamie Burnett of Durham, and Holly Mulcahey of New Haven. He is also survived by six grandchildren, J. Michael Mulcahey and his wife Paula, Bridgette Mathews and her husband Neil, Colleen Moceri and her husband Joseph, Wendy Murrin and her husband Peter, Daniel Juden, and Jay Juden, all of Gloucester, Massachusetts; eight great-grandchildren; and many devoted nieces, nephews, and friends, including special friends Robert and Marilyn Terry, of Durham. He was predeceased by his brother, Clayton J. Mulcahey, and his sister Margaret F. (Mulcahey) LaPointe.

    Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a celebration of John's life at noon on Saturday, July 21, at 315 Stage Coach Rd., Durham. Burial will take place at a later date in Gloucester, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
