    John Guido, Jr., 65, North Haven

    John Guido, Jr., 65, of North Haven, died Dec. 20 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.  He was the husband of Janice Votto Guido.  John was born in New Haven on Feb. 19, 1947, son of John Guido, Sr. and Gloria Tancreti Guido of North Haven. He was a 1961 graduate of St. Francis Catholic School in Fair Haven and a 1965 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and 6th year degrees from Southern Connecticut State University and had been an educator for the North Haven School System for 40 years, having taught at the former Mill Road Elementary and Orchard Hill Junior High Schools and the North Haven Middle School. 

    John coached various sports teams for North Haven. He had served as president of the North Haven Education Association for nine years; was a retired member of the National and Connecticut Education Associations; and had been a local musician with various bands in the New Haven area during the 1960s and 1970s and a member of the Jolly Timers. 

    Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two children, Marybeth Madigan and her husband John of Wallingford and John Guido and his wife Angela Pecoraro of Meriden.  He was known as “Papa” to the “love of his life” Thomas James (TJ) Guido, and is also survived by his brother Pat Guido and wife Donna of East Haven and several nieces and nephews.

    His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, on Monday, Dec. 24, at 10:30 a.m.  A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Therese Church at 11 a.m., followed by burial in All Saints Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be Sunday, Dec. 23, from 3 to 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Catholic School, 423 Ferry St., New Haven, CT  06513.  www.northhavenfuneral.com
