    Janet Wentworth, 66, Clinton

Janet Wentworth, 66, of Clinton, died peacefully on Feb. 9. She was the wife of Ronald Wentworth.  Janet was born in Elwood, Indiana in 1946, daughter of Helen Elliot and the late Robert Elliot. She grew up in Greentown, Indiana, where her childhood was filled with bicycle riding with her sister and best friend Kay, foraging through the nearby Greentown glass quarry for interesting finds, and riding her horse Penny. She loved driving her red Ford Gran Torino (though seatbelts in those days were optional).

Janet earned her BA in education from Indiana University and her MA in psychology from the University of New Haven. She met Ronald Wentworth while at school and they married in 1975 in East Weymouth, Massachusetts, and settled down to spend their 38 years together in Clinton.

After some time spent teaching elementary students and children with special needs, Janet decided to become an amazing stay-at-home mother and homemaker, devoting herself to raising and nurturing her three children.

Janet was a dedicated member of the community. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Congregational in Clinton; belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Olive Branch Chapter No. 87 in Madison; was a member of the Grand Cross of Color; and spent time as an Advisory Board member for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls while her daughters were part of Branford Assembly No. 19.

Janet was a woman who touched many people in her life and rarely asked for anything in return. She could be seen working during the annual church summer fair or cooking turkeys at the church year after year for the nearby Thanksgiving soup kitchen. An avid reader, Janet could always be found reading a book. She also loved gardening and every summer could be found working in her vegetable garden. A very private person, she was loved by all who knew her.

Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by her sister Kay Brownlow; three children, Alison (Wentworth) Vance, Todd Wentworth, and Jennifer Wentworth; and three grandchildren, Krystal, Joey, and Peyton Wentworth.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 2, at 11 a.m., at the First Church of Christ Congregational in Clinton, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to the First Church of Christ in Clinton. The Swan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left on Janet's online guest book at www.swanfh.com.
