    Richard Joseph Caron, 84, Fort Pierce, Florida

    Richard Caron, 84, of Fort Pierce, Florida, beloved husband, partner, and best friend of Barbara (Koropatkin) Caron, died on Feb. 10 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and altruistic demeanor.

    Richard was born in Hartford on June 6, 1928, son of the late Albert and Margaret (Blais) Caron.  He attended high school in Quebec and was fluent in French. He had lived in South Windsor for 36 years.

    Richard had served in the U.S. Army from 1945 through 1947. He retired from Eastern Trucking after 34 years as a proud member of Local Teamsters No. 671 and subsequently worked for Caron Auto Works for five years. He was respected for his incredible work ethic over his long working life. 

    Richard had lived in Fort Pierce, Florida, for the past 20 years and was an exceptional friend to many at the Spanish Lakes Country Club. He enjoyed his retirement years very much, engaging with many at the club house, playing cards and bocce, and winning many pool table competitions. He was also a member of the BPOE (Elks) in Fort Pierce, as well as the American Legion.

    He is survived by his son Richard and wife Jean Horn Caron of Old Saybrook; his son David and wife Kimberly Holland Caron of South Windsor; his daughter Cindy and her husband Gary Mulvey of Newington; and his son Robert Caron of South Windsor. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, David and Lindsey Caron, Melissa Mulvey, and Michael Caron; his brother George Caron; his sister Lucille Calvin; five nieces; five nephews; three step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Annette.

    A mass of Christian burial was celebrated in his name on Feb. 23 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor.  Burial took place in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Donations may be made in his name to the Hospice of Vero Beach, 1111 36th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960; or to the American Cancer Society; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
