Joan Dahill, 84, Branford, formerly of Guilford

Joan Dahill, 84, of Branford, formerly a longtime resident of Guilford, died peacefully at the Connecticut Hospice on March 2 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.  She was the loving wife of the late Harold Francis Dahill, former president and owner of the F. Dahill Company, Inc.  Joan was born in New Haven on Feb. 26, 1929, daughter of the late Hugh M. and Agatha Griffin Patterson.  She was a 1946 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and a 1948 graduate of the Wilson School of Medical Technology in Boston, Massachusetts.

From 1948 to 1956, Joan worked as an X-ray and medical technologist at Reagan Laboratories on Elm Street in New Haven.  Shortly thereafter she was married and began raising her family.  She was a past member and former president of the Junior/Senior Women’s Westend Club.

In 1978, Joan went back to work as a nurse in Dr. Virginia M. Stuermer’s office in Guilford until her retirement in 2001.  Through the years, Joan was actively involved in her community as a docent at the Dudley Farm Museum in Guilford, a member of the Friends of the Guilford Library, a long time communicant of St. George Church and its choir, and a member of the Clinton Choral.  In addition, she volunteered much of her free time with many organizations and charities, too numerous to mention.

She is survived by her beloved son and longtime caregiver, F. John Dahill II of Branford, and her son Hugh P. Dahill of New Haven and Kathleen M. Dahill.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Friday, March 8, at 10 a.m., followed by burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven.  Friends may call on Thursday, March 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Suite 100, Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 (www.alz.org).
