    Adele O. (“Tups”) (“Jet”) Weted, 86, Branford

    Adele O. Weted, 86, of Branford, died on May 16 at the Connecticut Hospice.  Adele who was affectionately known as “Tups” or “Jet,” was born on July 22, 1926, daughter of the late Sied and Amelia Zogby Weted. She was a lifelong resident of Branford and a communicant of St. Mary Church. 

    Adele had worked for SNET for 43 years until retiring.  While at SNET, she played basketball and softball for the Tel-Belles from 1946 to 1954.  She was an avid athlete in Branford, having played volleyball at BHS, and she was a BHS cheerleader.  In addition, she played in the Branford Rec Women’s Softball League for many years, being coached by her beloved brother Nick.

    Adele had played golf for many years and was still bowling until three months before her death.  She was elected to the Branford Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 and the New Haven Tap-off Club in 1989. 

    Adele was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UCONN Women’s basketball team.  She also traveled extensively and loved the islands, especially Aruba.  In addition, she was an animal lover and was especially fond of her friend Sue’s dogs, Ashley and Mikey.

    She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Barbara Fay, Nicholas Weted, Judy Weted, Dan Corbin, John Weted, Joann Lewin, Sharon Mrowka, George Weted, and Lynn Hozjan, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was predeceased by her brothers, Nicholas, George, Edward, and John Weted, and a sister, Jean Corbin.

    Her funeral procession will leave the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, on Monday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m., for a mass of Christian burial at St. Mary Church at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.  Friends may call on Sunday, May 19, from 3 to 6 p.m.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nick Weted Scholarship Fund, c/o Judith Weted, 7 Beach Place, Branford, CT 06405.  For directions and online memorial see www.wsclancy.com.
