    Joseph Giunti, 86, Hamden

    Joseph Giunti, 86, beloved husband of 59 years to Marjorie (DeMatto) Giunti, and resident of Hamden for the past 60 years, died July 12 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus after a short illness. Mr. Giunti was born in New Haven on Oct. 10, 1926, a son of the late Gino and Almerina (Maltempi) Giunti.

    For 35 years, he owned and operated the former Gino Corporation Tomato Sauce Company of Milford, retiring in 1985. Mr. Giunti was an avid Star Class sailor who loved sailing, and raced every weekend. He was a longtime member of the Milford Yacht Club since 1965 and a member of the East Coast Swamp Flyers Radio Control Model Airplanes club.

    He is survived by three daughters and a son; Pamela Giunti of East Hampton, Janet Giunti of Hamden, Melissa Guglielmi and her husband Roland of Branford, and Dr. Gene Giunti and his wife Jeanne of Brunswick, Maine, as well as six grandchildren; Jean-Luc and Madeline Guglielmi, Nathanael Scaniffe, and Macy, Jillian and Kellie Giunti. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by his sister,Vera Nargi.

    The Giunti family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, July 15 from 5- 8 p.m. at the Torello-Iacobucci Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 16 at 11 a.m., the Reverend Timothy Meehan officiating, with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamden.
