    Dr. Robert F. Coniff, 81, Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania, formerly of Madison

    Dr. Robert F. Coniff, 81, of Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania, formerly of Madison, beloved husband of the late Virginia (Davis) Coniff, died Aug. 23. He was born March 14, 1932 in Locust Gap, Pennsylvania to the late Francis and Eleanor (Ruths) Coniff.

    He graduated from Mount Carmel Township school in 1950, received a B.S. from Pennsylvania State University in 1954, and earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical School of Philadelphia in 1958. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Naval Medical Corps from 1958 to 1962 at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital, Bethesda Naval Hospital, and in Taiwan.

    Upon returning from abroad, Dr. Coniff completed his residency of internal medicine at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in endocrinology at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Coniff practiced endocrinology at the Geisinger Medical Center from 1967 to 1972 and at St. Louis Medical Park, St. Louis, Minnesota from 1972 to 1982. While practicing in Minnesota, he served as a clinical associate professor at the University of Minnesota and as the president of the Twin Cities Board for Diabetes and the Minnesota Diabetes Association. In 1982 he was hired by Bayer Pharmaceutical as a director of Medical Research in West Haven, he retired from that position in 1997.

    Bob was a member of the Eagles Mere Country Club, Eagles Mere Association, Eagles Mere Conservancy, Eagles Mere Friends of the Arts, and the Eagles Mere Historic Museum.

    He is survived by his brother Gerald Coniff of Baltimore, Maryland; his daughter Catherine E. Coniff of Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania, and her husband Christopher Kelly of Hamden; his son Todd D. Coniff and his wife Jennifer (Frawley) of Clinton; his daughter Melissa A. Maggioncalda and her husband John of Allentown, Pennsylvania; and his grandchildren Jacob, Davis, Madeleine, and Miles.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. in the St. John in-the-Wilderness Episcopal Church, 50 Jones Avenue, Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania. The family will provide flowers and asks that contributions be sent in Bob’s name to any of the following organizations: Eagles Mere Conservancy, P.O.
