    William 'Bill' Edward Allgaier, 70, Bluffton, South Carolina, formerly of Clinton

    William “Bill” Edward Allgaier, 70, of Hilton Head Sun City, Bluffton, South Carolina, formerly a 35-year resident of Clinton, died Sept. 15 surrounded by his loving family and the Lord. Bill was born July 9, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late George and Catherine Allgaier.

    He attended and graduated from Bullard Haven Technical School in Bridgeport, where he studied masonry. He worked as a mason for a number of years. He earned an associate’s degree from Middlesex Community College, and also graduated from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas in 1993. He retired from the Connecticut National Guard in 2001 as a Sergeant Major after 37 years of faithful service. His soldiers, duty, and honor to his country were of the utmost importance to him. After his years of military service, he owned XTRA Care Landscaping Company in Clinton. He retired in 2009, and moved with his wife to Hilton Head Sun City, South Carolina.

    He was a devout and faithful Catholic parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Clinton and St. Gregory the Great Church in Bluffton, South Carolina. He was a member of the Elks Club, an avid golfer, and a lifelong Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He was an excellent dancer, and he appreciated all music, especially Big Band. Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and a sincere friend to many. He is truly loved, will be greatly missed, and the world will not be the same without him.

    Bill is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Theresa “Jane” (Zdanowski) Allgaier; two sons, Bill Allgaier and his wife Theresa and their two sons Jacob and Ryan of Westbrook and John Allgaier and his wife Tracy and their daughter Julia of Clinton; his brother George Allgaier and his wife Louise of Savannah, Georgia; a sister, Kathleen Cloutier of Greenfield, Massachusetts; sisters-in-law Nancy Schietinger of Milford and Deborah Bonfietti of Woodbury; and a niece and nephews. 

    A funeral mass was held Sept. 20 at St. Mary’s Church, followed by burial with full military honors in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton. Swan Funeral Home, Clinton, was in charge of arrangements.
