Peggy Barnes, 80, of Guilford, beloved wife of William M. Barnes, died Feb. 18  at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was born Jan. 31, 1934 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Jack and Marie Stiles. She opened The North Guilford Herb Shop on the Guilford green and a general store and tea room in Branford.

She is survived by her children Debra Marie Barnes of Guilford, Pamela Monaco and her husband David of Guilford, Georgeanne Barnes-Keirstead and her husband Steven of Madison, William Barnes II and his wife Janice of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Amanda Barnes of Guilford.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. at the North Guilford Congregational Church, 159 Ledge Hill Rd., Guilford. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Peggy’s memory may be made to North Guilford Congregational Church, 159 Ledge Hill Rd., Guilford or The Dudley Farm Museum, 2351 Durham Rd., Guilford, CT 06437.
