Edwina (Wina) Bennett, 91, Old Saybrook

Edwina (Wina) Bennett, age 91, of Old Saybrook passed away on March 20. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Bennett, to whom she was married for more than 52 years and who predeceased her in 1996. Wina was born in Old Saybrook, the daughter of Victor and Delia (Baldi) Fabri. Upon retirement from Pratt Reade, Co., in Ivoryton, Wina and Art moved to Bartow, Florida to enjoy the warm climate. As “snow birds” they traveled Florida to Connecticut each year visiting family and friends along the way.

Wina enjoyed camping and travel adventures, square dancing with Saybrook Sound steppers, knitting, and ceramics. Family was her priority in life.

Due to her medical issues and loss of vision, Wina returned home to Saybrook for family love and support.

Wina is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Richter and her husband Karl of Old Saybrook and Roseann Rutty and her husband Bob of Ivoryton; her brother Louis Fabri of Old Saybrook; her grandchildren Richard Kessell of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Kevin Rutty and his wife Christine of Moodus, and Todd and Tina Bennett, both of Old Lyme. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Katherine Kessell of Middletown and Andrew Bennett of Old Lyme, and her daughter-in-law Barbara Bennett of Old Lyme. She was predeceased by her son James Arthur Bennett.

The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at The Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at Middlesex Hospital.

Christian Mass will be held at St. John’s Church in Old Saybrook. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 419005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. The Swan Funeral Home, Clinton, was in charge of arrangements.
