    New London - The Coast Guard Academy volleyball team's home winning streak ended at 25 Tuesday with a 25-14, 21-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 13-15 loss to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.

    MIT was the last team to beat Coast Guard at home when it won 3-0 on Oct. 9, 2007.

    Freshman Lauren Bloch had a match-high 19 kills to go with eight digs while Keriann Mason had 15 kills, 15 digs and four blocks and Karen Matic had 54 assists for the Bears (11-1, 3-1). MIT is 12-4, 4-0.

    In another match:

    • Katie Ketcham had 26 assists and six aces, leading Connecticut College to a 3-0 win over St. Joseph's. Conn won 25-23, 25-19 and 25-9. Meg Christman had seven kills and two aves for Conn (5-8).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Lucy Fernandez scored twice to lead Norwich Free Academy to its 2-0 win over Waterford in the ECC. Kellie Labrecque saved the only shot she faced for NFA (2-2-1, 2-1). Megan Duplice had five saves for the Lancers (2-2, 2-1).

    • Jenna Brodeur scored twice for Old Saybrook as it beat Morgan of Clinton, 3-1, in the Shoreline Conference. Nora McNeil scored and for Old Saybrook (3-0-2, 1-0-2) and Lauren van Vliet added seven saves. The Huskies 3-3, 0-2.

    • Randi Parilla scored two goals and Heather Planchon and Kelly Grills each had one, as Stonington blanked East Lyme, 4-0, in the ECC. Goalie Julie Royer made two saves for the Bears (5-0, 3-0). The Vikings are 1-4, 1-2.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Val Zaytsev had six points and 10 digs as Putnam defeated Wheeler, 25-21, 13-25, 25-22, 25-21 in the ECC Small Division. Heather Sawyer had 13 points and six assists, Brittany Johnson 14 points, 11 digs and four kills, Ciara Haines seven kills and seven points and Kayla Bill nine points and seven kills and eight digs. The Lions are 0-4.

    H.S. swimming

    • Alivia Berg won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke as Fitch edged Ledyard, 90.5-79.5 in the ECC. Renee Harms and Kylie Martinod also won events for the Falcons (3-0, 3-0). Jessica Hespeler, Caitlin Koshoffer and Rhianna Blake won events for Ledyard (1-2, 1-2).

    • Anna Kudej won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke as Norwich Free Academy defeated Waterford, 100-83, in the ECC. NFA is 2-2, 2-1. Rachel Kriet and Abby Gatheral won two events apiece for the Lancers (0-4, 0-3).

    College men's soccer

    • Kevin Woodford made two saves in Mitchell College's 1-0 loss to Mount Saint Mary. The Mariners are 2-5.

    • Freshman David Louria scored two goals, powering Connecticut College past UMass-Dartmouth, 2-0. Alex Martland had three saves for the Camels (4-1).

    College sailing

    • Connecticut College's coed team competed in the New England Sloop Championship on the Thames River this past weekend. The Camels, ranked No. 18 in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) National Poll, placed third in the 10 team field with 41 points.

    Mike Marshall, Kyle Fast, Peter Miller, Ben Bainbridge and Tim Clark competed for the Camels.

    In the women's division, junior All-American skipper Maggie Shea competed in the New England Singlehanded Championship at Boston College. Shea placed sixth in the 14 team field of competitors with a score of 89 points.

    College tennis

    • Coast Guard improved to 2-1 with a 5-4 win over Salve Regina. Blake Maurer clinched the match with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles. Nick Martine and Chris Pappe combined for three match points with a win at No. 1 doubles and respective wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

    Local golf

    • The New London Country Club team of pro Kevin Shea, Tom Bagley, Kevin Willoughby and Tom Carbone finished first in a Connecticut Section PGA Mohegan Sun Pro-Am event Monday at Hop Meadow Country Club. They combined to shoot 9-under 135 (68-67). Shea had the sixth lowest score among pros with a 74.

    In other NLCC news, the club will compete against nine other teams in the Ben Lewon Pro-Am team championship Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Mohegan Sun Country Club at Pautipaug.

    • Stonington Country Club captured the Men's Seacoast League title by one stroke over Black Hall Club with a net score of 19-under, 123, playing a best two of six net format Sept. 22 at Old Lyme Country Club. Stonington and Black Hall won their respective division titles to reach the final.

    Stonington rallied from nine shots down to beat New London Country Club by one shot in the last match of the regular season to clinch the division.
