Springfield, Mass. — The Pondview Racquet Club 8.8 tennis team of Westerly won the New England Section championships on Sunday to advance to the national finals this November in Tucson, Ariz.

After winning the district competition in June, Pondview beat five teams in the New England meet, including wins in the semifinals and finals on Sunday.

“I am really proud of the way this team played,” said team captain Angelo Dispirito. “They gutted out every match in order to go to the national championships.”

Added Pondview owner Jane Shanley, “Tennis is a lifelong sport as is evidenced by the ages on this championship team. They range from ages 22 to 62 and can all compete at a very high level of tennis. Pondview is very proud of them all.”

Team members are: Angelo Dispirito, John Damon, Kristen Onorato, John Groton, Alice Groton, Brian Kluberdanz, Sage Shanley, Nick Raho, Annick Gouin, Hannah Siener and Barry Manfredi.
