Ex-Fitch star resigns job at Bucknell

Lewisburg, Pa. - Bucknell women's basketball coach Kathy Fedorjaka, who guided the Bison to a pair of Patriot League titles and NCAA tournament bids, resigned on Friday 17 games into her 15th season.

Fedorjaka, the former Kathy Gailor, an ex-Fitch High School star, leaves as the winningest coach in school history (209), although Bucknell was only 2-15 this season at the time of Fedorjaka's resignation.

Assistant coach Bill Broderick will serve as interim head coach the rest of the season.

"There comes a moment in every coach's career when the difficult decision becomes whether it is time to step aside, and the time has come for me to move in a different direction," Fedorjaka said in a story on the school's athletic web site. "I do so with a very positive outlook towards the future and some extremely positive memories of this university and our women's basketball program.

"Our teams have had some extraordinary success across these years and I am grateful for the opportunity to have led this program to new heights and to have gotten to know so many wonderful Bucknellians, most especially the women and staff who have part of this program."

Fedorjaka, a 1990 Fairfield University graduate, spent three seasons as an assistant at Bucknell (1990-93) before leading Connecticut College to a 16-8 record in her only season in 1993-94. She left to become head coach at Division II Bloomsburg from 1994-97 before taking over at Bucknell in 1997-98.

She guided Bucknell to Patriot League titles and NCAA tourney berths in 2002 and 2008.

"I am very thankful to Kathy Fedorjaka for her 18 years of loyal service to Bison athletics," athletic director John Hardt said. "Kathy was extremely passionate about coaching and she was able to elevate the program to competitive heights never before seen in the Bison women's basketball program. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors."

Fedorjaka's husband, Frank, is Bucknell's head men's lacrosse coach.
