    Local Roundup: Zimmerman leads Coast Guard to victory

    New London - The Coast Guard Academy women's basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season by beating Curry 75-52 Sunday afternoon.

    The Bears (8-1) lost to Wheaton 71-63 Saturday.

    Brittney Zimmerman led Coast Guard with 24 points and six assists, Kaitlin Ward scored 12 with eight rebounds and Torie Sutherland scored 12. Coast Guard also got key contributions off the bench from Dani Knox (11 rebounds) and Alexi Howland (10 points).

    Kylie Beltz led Curry (5-4) with 12 points and five assists.

    H.S. hockey

    • Fitch/East Lyme/Ledyard/Hale-Ray lost to Barlow 6-5 in overtime Saturday night. Cara Bradley had a goal and an assist, Kiefer Stroebel had two assists and Tyler Luke made 30 saves for the Eagles (1-6). Keegan Twomey, Chris Freeman, Tyler Hebert and Pete Yapchanyk also scored goals and Austin D'Addario had an assist for the Eagles.

    H.S. wrestling

    • NFA went 1-3 at the Southington Duals Saturday, losing to Mount Anthony Union of Vermont (78-0), Southington (44-27) and Winchester, Mass. (54-26) and beating Manchester 43-42. Joey Mahoney-Ballestraci (126 pounds), Ryan Mocek (132), Tony Hong (160) and Kahleed Exum-Strong (182) had tow pins each for NFA (5-8) and Jacob Hodge (152) and Matt Foster (106) also won twice.

    H.S. boys' basketball

    • NFA beat Fitch 63-43 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large division game Saturday. Marcus Outlow and Jonathan Morrison scored 18 points each for NFA (5-0, 2-0). Willie Harris had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Fitch (1-4, 0-2).
