    Local colleges: T-More advances to New England final

    Gill, Mass. - Christian Vital scored 18 points to help lead No. 3 St. Thomas More to a 90-78 win over No. 2 Northfield Mount Hermon on Saturday in the semifinals of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class AAA men's basketball tournament.

    The Chancellors (31-4) play top-seeded Brewster Academy in the final today at Endicott College, beginning at 5 p.m.

    Sterling Taplan scored 15, UConn-bound Steven Enoch, Ryan Peterson and Sean Hoehn had 11 points each.

    Men's hockey

    • No. 4 Williams scored three times in the third period, beating No. 3 Conn College in the semifinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament. Greg Liautaud and J.C. Cangelosi had goals and Tom Conlin made 30 saves for Conn (14-10-2).

    Men's indoor track

    • Coast Guard had three third-place finishes on the final day of the ECAC Division III Championships at the Armory in New York City. Joe Kelly was third in the 500-meter dash (1:05.10), Jonathan Lash was third in the 3,000 (8:41) and the Bears' 4x400 relay team of James Dawkins, Kelly, Kelcey Smith and Ben Hannon finished third in 3:21.49. On Friday, the distance medley relay team of Caleb Teachout, Dawkins, Andrew Scheffey and Brett Foster placed fifth in 10:18.76.

    Women's indoor track

    • Conn College sophomore Ashley Curran captured the 3,000-meter race on the final day of the ECAC Division III Championships. Curran finished in 10:05.09. Teammate Bella Franz earned All-ECAC honors by placing fourth in the 800 (2:15.48) while Kim Bolick also earned All-ECAC honors by placing seventh in the mile (5:05.91).

    • Coast Guard's Beth Golin finished third in the 3,000 in 10:14.95 while during the first day of competition on Friday, Monet Masters cleared 11 feet, 4.25 inches in the pole vault to place seventh for the Bears.

    Women's lacrosse

    • Coast Guard picked up its first NCAA victory, beating New York Maritime 12-7. Niki Kruger scored five goals, Anne Schneider and Holly Moore each scored twice and Angel Fay made seven saves for Coast Guard (1-1).

    • Middlebury beat Conn College 19-2 in the NESCAC. Taylor Thomas and Hannah Donegan scored goals for Conn (1-2, 0-1).

    Men's lacrosse

    • Conn College lost its NESCAC opener, falling to Middlebury 13-9. Ross Thompson had three goals and two assists for Conn (1-2).

    • Mitchell lost to Lebanon Valley, 10-3. Dan DiGoia scored twice for Mitchell (0-2).

    College baseball

    • Axel De Jesus pitched a six-hitter as Mitchell remained unbeaten with an 11-0 win over Newbury in a New England Collegiate Conference game at Fort Myers, Fla. Ryan Goodwin was 3-for-4 with four RBI for Mitchell (4-0, 3-0).

    • Coast Guard opened its season with a 7-6 win over North Park at Fort Myers, Fla. Freshman catcher Alex Murdoch was 3-for-4 and drove in four runs, including a two-run triple in the seventh inning that gave the Bears the lead.

    College softball

    • Mitchell dropped to 0-4 with a 5-2 loss to Simpson in a game played at Winter Haven, Fla. Shannon O'Neil and Lindsey Romagnino had two hits each for Mitchell.
