Tigers take series with 4-1 win at Auburn

Auburn, N.Y. — Dane Myers tossed his fifth straight gem and three relievers shut down the Auburn bats as the Connecticut Tigers beat the Doubledays 4-1 at Falcon Park on Thursday night.

With the victory, the Tigers (23-23) get back to .500 as they head home to open a three-game set with Batavia on Friday night at Dodd Stadium.

Myers, who has now allowed only two hits in his last 17 innings, gave up a second-inning solo shot to Brandon Boggetto to give Auburn a 1-0 lead. It was the 10th straight game that the opposition has scored first against Connecticut.

The Tigers grabbed the lead in the third with the benefit of two errors by Auburn second baseman Andres Martinez. With two outs, both Luke Burch and Ro Coleman both reached on the miscues. Jordan Pearce (2-for-5) drove in Burch with a single to tie it and Reynaldo Rivera made it 2-1 with a base hit to bring in Coleman.

Connecticut added insurance runs in the fifth on a Rivera sacrifice fly, and the eighth on a Cole Peterson (2-for-4) single that brought in Colby Bortles.

Myers went four innings, giving up just the Boggetto home run. He was followed by Max Green (1-1), Will Vest, and Drew Carlton, who threw five innings of three-hit, shutout relief with seven strikeouts. Carlton pitched the ninth for his fifth save in five tries.

The Batavia series opens at 7:05 Friday night, with Military Appreciation Night and a  fireworks show after the game.
