    Local roundup: UConn women announce nonleague schedule

    Storrs — The UConn women's basketball team announced its 2022-23 non-conference schedule on Wednesday.

    Seven of UConn's non-conference opponents finished 2021-22 ranked in the top 20 of the NCAA Net Rankings: No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 NC State, No. 7 Texas, No. 12 Maryland, No. 15 Notre Dame, No. 19 Tennessee and No. 20 Princeton.

    The Huskies will open the season at home against Northeastern on Thursday, Nov. 10. UConn takes on Texas in Connecticut on Monday Nov. 14. In a rematch of the thrilling 2022 NCAA tournament Elite Eight double overtime game, UConn hosts NC State on Sunday, Nov. 20. UConn hosts Princeton on Thursday, Dec. 8, marking a homecoming for UConn alumna and Tigers head coach Carla Berube.

    The Huskies will host defending national champion South Carolina on Sunday, Feb. 5, in UConn's non-conference finale. The teams faced off against each other in the 2022 NCAA Championship game. UConn will travel to Notre Dame on Sunday, Dec. 4, and to Maryland on Sunday, Dec. 11. The Huskies will also face Tennessee on the road (date TBA).

    The Huskies will play three neutral site games: Nov. 25 and 27 at the Phil Knight Legacy in Portland (opponents TBA) and Dec. 18 at the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase vs. Florida State at Mohegan Sun.

    The Huskies will play in one exhibition this season, against Kutztown on Sunday, Nov. 6. Home venue designations, tip times and TV information will be announced at a later date.

    • John Ferraro's two-run single in the top of the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and lifted TriTown to a 4-2 win over Waterford. Ken Miller was 3-for-3 and Connor Rowe had two hits and two RBI for Waterford (9-3). Waterford pitcher Aidan Whitten pitcher a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

    District 10 softball (8-10)

    • Mikaela Richter struck out seven in five innings and had three hits as East Lyme/Salem beat Ledyard 11-1. Clara Dueker had three hits and Adele Lloyd and Hailey Fletcher had two hits each for East Lyme/Salem. Ledyard pitcher Madison Bingham struck out six and also drove in a run.

    District 10 softball (10-12)

    • Stonington beat Groton/Mystic 13-6 on Tuesday night. Ainslie Zagol was the winning pitcher and struck out four. Shay Deary, Molly Perkins, Shelby Mayo and Sara Slitt had two RBI each for Stonington. Kayla Gibson had three hits and Michaela Miner and Nora Gambardella had doubles for Groton/Mystic.

    District 10 baseball (10-12)

    • Waterford beat Mystic 10-3 on Tuesday night. Winning pitcher Mason Dyer struck out six over three innings. Carson Gallerani doubled and drove in three runs and Sal Bonnano and Quin Robinson had multiple hits for Waterford. Braydyn Banks had two hits for Mystic.

    District 10 baseball (9-11)

    • East Lyme beat Groton 5-1 on Tuesday night. Drew Perkins gave up one hit over five innings and was the winning pitcher, with relief help from Owen McDonald. Groton pitcher Keenan Henry allowed three hits and struck out seven over 3.2 innings.
