    Preston home destroyed in fire

Preston — A home at 27 Harris Fuller Road was destroyed in a Thursday night fire.

Fire Chief Tom Casey said the fire was called in at 9:34 p.m. The home was unoccupied at the time. Casey said he did not know how many people lived in the home.

Casey said when fire crews arrived at the scene, the two-story, wood-frame house was fully engulfed in flames. He said fire was coming from “all the windows and through the roof.” The house is about 500 feet away from the road.

Casey said Preston City and Poquetanuck fire departments along with a FAST team from Mohegan Tribal initially responded to the blaze.

A tanker-shuttle system had to be established because there were no hydrants in the area. A water source was established from a hydrant near the SEAT bus garage on Route 12.

The Ledyard, Gales Ferry, North Stonington and Griswold fire departments assisted with the water supply.

The fire was under control by 10:19 p.m. Fire crews were going back this morning to assist with overhaul of the house.

Casey said the home was a total loss.

    No injuries were reported.

The Preston fire marshal along with the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
