Man charged with assaulting New London police officers

New London — A man was arrested Sunday after police said he assaulted several police officers who attempted to arrest him.

Travon Brown, 21, of unknown address, was charged with three counts of assault on a police officer, interfering with a police officer and second-degree breach of peace.

Police said that the officer witnessed Brown punch a female in the nose, causing her to bleed.

Brown resisted arrest and punched the officer several times in the face and head.

Police said other men jumped on the officer, forcing him to let go of Brown.

Curtis Goodwin, 25, of 33 Brainard St., and Austin Cannon, 34, of 14 Jessica Lane, Ledyard, were each charged with interfering with a police officer.

Backup officers arrived and Brown also fought with them. It took four officers to get Brown into custody.

Police said Brown had been assaulted by a male in front of Captain’s Pizza before he punched the female and fought with police.

Brown did not cooperate with police and did not identify his assailant, police said.

The officer was treated and released at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. He is out of work, recovering from injuries, police said.

Brown is being held on a $25,000 bond, pending his arraignment today in New London Superior Court.
