East Lyme police arrest man wanted for human trafficking
East Lyme - A Massachusetts man wanted in that state for human trafficking was arrested Monday after police here got a tip that he was staying in a local hotel.
Anthony Maness, 37, of Framingham, was charged with being a fugitive from justice. In Massachusetts, he is expected to be charged with deriving support from the earnings of a prostitute and trafficking persons for sexual servitude.
State police in Massachusetts requested assistance in locating Maness. Police learned he was staying in an East Lyme hotel with a female alleged victim.
Prior to the arrival of police, Maness got a phone call letting him know that they were looking for him, police said.
Maness and the woman fled on foot into a wooded area. East Lyme Officer James Levandoski saw the woman running through a nearby apartment complex. She was detained and taken to a local hospital for observation, police said.
Levandoski saw Maness attempt to enter a vehicle that was not his. Maness was arrested without incident, police said. While at Troop E in Montville, he suffered a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital. Police said Tuesday that Maness is still hospitalized.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
