Gunshots fired Friday night during New London robbery attempt

New London — Police are investigating a street robbery during which several gunshots were fired. The incident happened at about 10:45 Friday night.

When police responded to the area of Waller Street near Connecticut Avenue, several people said they were standing near a parked car when they were approached by an unknown subject who was looking for marijuana.

Police said that when the victims told the man they didn’t have any, the man pulled a handgun from his waistband and the victims fled on foot. Police said the subject then fired several shots before running toward Williams Street.

The complainants said they discovered two cellphones were missing from their car and they believed the man with the handgun took them before he fled the area.

Officers investigating the incident found two spent shell casings near where the gunshots were fired.

Police described the man with the gun as a light skinned black male, approximately 6-feet, 1-inch tall and medium build. He had braided hair and was wearing a baseball cap, a black shirt and shorts.
