Groton – A 26-year-old Groton man faces drunken driving charges after police said he rear-ended a police cruiser Thursday that was diverting traffic at the scene of a motor vehicle crash.

Yves F. Laforte, of 56 Georgia St., was charged at 11:32 p.m. with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, disobeying the signal of an officer and failure to drive at a reasonable distance.

Police said the accident occurred on Route 12 at the onramp for Interstate 95 south. Laforte was released on a non-surety bond and scheduled to appear Nov. 16 in New London Superior Court.
