Daughter of Colchester woman killed by falling tree in stable condition
The daughter of a Colchester woman killed Monday when she was struck by a falling tree remained hospitalized Thursday in stable condition at Hartford Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Eighteen-year-old Jessica Surratt sustained a serious leg injury from the same tree that killed her mother, 45-year-old Barbara Young of Colchester, while they were at the Salmon River State Forest in East Hampton, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Jessica Surratt was flown by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital with a serious leg injury.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene. Young's son, Kevin Surratt, 22, was not injured in the incident.
