One killed, one arrested in separate Ledyard accidents

Ledyard — Police are investigating two accidents — one that resulted in death and the other that ended with an arrest.

Ledyard police said the first accident was reported late Tuesday at about 10:49 p.m. Police said the rollover accident occurred in the area of Inchcliffe Drive at Smith Pond Way in Gales Ferry. A person was ejected from the vehicle, which ended up in a pond.

The driver of the car, Heather Planeta, 23, of Plainville, was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she died.

The Ledyard Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident, along with a report that the vehicle may have been involved in an earlier evading accident on Route 12.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Ledyard Officer Eric Bushor at (860) 464-6400.

Police said the second accident occurred at 1:36 a.m. this morning on Route 214 between Shewville Road and Elizabeth George Drive. When police arrived at the scene, they found a 2013 Dodge Charger off the roadway on fire.

The driver of the car was out of the vehicle and subsequently arrested.

Spencer Isaac, 33, of New London, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and driving without a license.

He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on July 12.
