    Police make second arrest in connection with Westbrook shootout

    State police made an additional arrest related to the April incident in Westbrook in which a man allegedly exchanged gunfire with state police, leaving a suspect dead and a trooper injured.

    Gina Haut, 34, of 184 Main St. Ivoryton, was charged with hindering prosecution, interfering the police, tampering with physical evidence and three counts of second-degree false statement.

    She is being held on a $50,000.00 cash bond. Haut will appear at Middlesex Superior court on Aug. 1.

    State police said no additional arrests are anticipated.

    The incident occurred on April 8, after an armed robbery at an Old Saybrook motel. The getaway vehicle collided with a state police vehicle on Route 153 in Westbrook, and the suspects and state police exchanged gunfire.

    Police Detective Scott Wisner was shot in the shoulder and treated and released from Middlesex Shoreline Clinic. Suspect Jonathan Alvarado, 24, of Deep River died of gunshot wounds. A second suspect, Sebastian Award, also 24 and of Deep River, was transported by Lifestar helicopter to Hartford Hospital for treatment of severe injuries.

    Award was charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, conspiracy, two counts of first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, two counts of first-degree robbery, three counts of second-degree larceny, three counts of criminal possession of a firearm, assault on a police officer, first-degree reckless endangerment, engaging in pursuit, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, interfering with a police officer and aiding and abetting in first-degree assault.
