Norwich man faces gun and drug charges

    David D. Holland Jr.

Norwich – A routine motor vehicle stop in Norwich on Thursday led to the arrest of a Norwich man who police said was in possession of marijuana, packaging material and illegal possession of a .22 caliber handgun.

At 5:30 p.m., Officer Richard Cannata stopped a 2007 Honda Accord on Mohegan Park Road in Norwich. While speaking to the driver, police said he suddenly fled from the officer in the vehicle.

The vehicle and driver, later identified as 24-year-old David D. Holland Jr. of 603 New London Turnpike, were found a short time later in Mohegan Park. Holland was found to be in possession of about 2 ounces of marijuana, packaging material, a scale and the gun. The car had a suspended registration and no insurance.

Holland was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, weapon in a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, driving with a suspended registration and failure to carry insurance.

Holland was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond and is slated to appear Friday in Norwich Superior Court.
