Credit-card scam reported in state
The state Department of Banking said today that Connecticut residents are getting automated telephone calls seeking information about private banking accounts.
The call informs residents that their debit cards have been frozen and then asks that they enter their card number and other information.
“This is a scam, and anyone who receives such a call should immediately hang up the phone,” Banking Commissioner Howard F. Pitkin said in a statement.
Pitkin said anyone receiving such a call should contact their bank or financial institution immediately. They also may call the banking department at (800) 831-7225 or visit www.ct.gov/dob.
