Waterford police charge man in Wal-Mart shoplifting incident
Waterford – Police on Thursday arrested a 45-year-old man who they say shoplifted at Wal-Mart and flashed a gun at a loss prevention officer as he was making his getaway.
Willard Ar-Rahmann Jr. was charged with second-degree robbery, interfering with an officer, sixth-degree larceny and possession of a shoplifting device.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Arriving Waterford officers chased Ar-Rahmann and took him into custody after a brief struggle, according to a statement from Lt. Stephen Bellos. An off-duty state trooper assisted officers.
Police said several pieces of stolen property were recovered with the help of Waterford Police Officer Dan Lane and his K-9 Ike.
Ar-Rahmann was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond and is expected for an appearance Friday in New London Superior Court.
Police were not available to comment on whether or not they located a gun. Ar-Rahmann's address was not listed in the press statement.
