Stonington police plan speed enforcement campaign

Stonington — Police on Wednesday announced that extra speed patrols will begin Friday and continue to Sept. 30 at various locations and times throughout town.

The enforcement is made possible through High Risk Rural Roads Speed Enforcement, a federally funded grant obtained through the state Department of Transportation. One hundred percent of costs of the extra patrols will be reimbursed through the grant, according to a statement from Sgt. Keith Beebe.

The objective of the program is to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and fatalities from speed through high visibility enforcement activity.
