Norwich — One city man has been arrested and more arrests are expected after shots were fired in the area of Oakwood Knoll Monday evening, police said.

Police said dispatchers received multiple calls of shots fired near Oakwood Knoll about 4:54 p.m. Although an on-scene investigation revealed no victims, it did turn up descriptions of a suspect and a vehicle he was in.

Police, who didn’t specify what the vehicle was, said they located it on Fairview Avenue. Officers then obtained and carried out search warrants on the vehicle and a related Fairview Avenue home, police said.

Police said they found two firearms during their search of the vehicle and home and seized other unspecified evidence.

Uncas Elementary School and Teacher’s Academy, police noted, had to delay their after-school program dismissals a short time because of the investigation.

Dimitri R. Thomas, 27, of 6 Fairview Ave. was charged with interfering with an officer and driving with a suspended license in connection with the incident.

Thomas, who posted a $5,000 bond, is due in Norwich Superior Court April 27.

Police said they expect to make additional arrests in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Detective Division at (860) 886-5561, ext. 7, or the anonymous tip line at ext. 4. All information will be kept confidential.
