Police: Man on a scooter chases down golf cart thief in Old Lyme
Old Lyme — A New London man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a golf cart and drove it through town until its owner chased him down on a scooter.
Terrence D. Cowart, 23, of 112 Garfield Ave., Apt. 1, New London, was charged July 16 in Old Lyme with two counts of third-degree larceny.
According to police, officers first responded to 11 Old Colony Road about 4:42 p.m. because a person there reported his golf cart had been stolen.
Officers located the first golf cart at 69 Old Colony Road, police said, but learned at that point that a different golf cart had been stolen from that residence.
According to police, the second golf cart owner spotted a man driving his cart down Breen Avenue. The owner hopped onto a scooter and chased the man down, at which point the man ditched the cart and went into a cottage at 19 Hartung Road, police said.
Police said officers located Cowart a short time later walking up Groton Avenue and arrested him without incident.
Court records show Cowart is now facing just one charge of third-degree larceny. Released on a $2,500 bond, he is next due in New London Superior Court Tuesday.
