Man found to have 50 bags of fentanyl in New London sober house sentenced
A man who was charged in 2019 with having 50 bags of fentanyl in the New London sober house he was living in was sentenced Thursday in New London Superior Court.
Thomas Gunning, 21, appeared in court Thursday morning and pleaded guilty to possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics with intent to sell. He was sentenced by Judge Hillary B. Strackbein to a suspended eight-year sentence with three years of probation.
Gunning, who was a resident of a sober house at 130 Montauk Ave., was arrested on Dec. 16, 2019, near Montauk and Willetts avenues after the New London Police Department was notified that someone might be selling fentanyl in the area, according to police and State’s Attorney Paul Narducci.
Gunning was found to be in possession of 50 glassine bags of about 9.5 grams of fentanyl, a cellphone and $570 in cash, police said.
Narducci on Thursday recommended the eight-year suspended sentence with three years' probation, which the judge accepted. Gunning told the judge he was living with a relative in Baltic.
