Waterford — A 53-year-old Waterford man is facing charges after he allegedly recorded people while they were in their homes, police said.

Keith Hancock of 6 Overlook Drive was charged on a warrant Tuesday with eight counts of voyeurism and three counts of third-degree criminal trespass. He was released on a $100,000 bond and is due in G.A. 10 court in New London on Feb. 23, according to police.

Waterford police responded late in the evening and overnight on Oct. 7 to a report of a person in the backyard of a residence, and a police K-9 team went to search, according to a news release from the Waterford Police Department. Several items "were seized that indicated a person had been in the yard as described by the resident."

The department's Investigative Services Unit, after reviewing the evidence and overseeing an investigation, determined that the person "had used digital recording devices to record people involved in various activities within their homes," according to the release.

Waterford detectives conducted interviews and searches and also seized more evidence, according to the release. They worked with Task Force members of the Eastern Technical Investigative Unit, "which is organized under the United States Secret Service" and comprises officers from the Groton Town, Norwich and Waterford police departments, to forensically examine the items.

"Victims of these recordings have been identified and made aware of the recordings," police said.

When asked, Waterford police Lt. Timothy Silva said Tuesday night, "Our investigation did not turn up any information that would indicate any recording was distributed." Asked whether minors were among those recorded, he said police will not release or identify any victim information.
