Body of boater found in water at Westerly marina

Westerly – The body of a boater at the Frank Hall marina was discovered floating near a dock Friday afternoon.

The man was discovered by another boater about 2 p.m., according to Westerly police Chief Paul J. Gingerella. About 4:30 p.m., he said detectives remained on scene and police were waiting to hear back from the medical examiner.

The identity of the boater, who was from Westerly, is being withheld pending notification of family.

Gingerella said early indications point to an apparent medical emergency that caused the man to fall in the water.

“At this point it doesn’t appear to be suspicious, unless something comes up we don’t know about,” he said.

It’s unknown if the man fell from the dock or a boat, or how long he was in the water. Gingerella said there were no witnesses and that nobody heard any calls for help or struggles in the water.
