Groton woman charged with home invasion after eviction

Groton ― Police charged a local woman Oct. 22 with home invasion after a caller reported that the woman, who he knew, put a knife to his face in an attempt to enter a home on Cormorant Road.

Lee Greenberg, 53, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of second-degree breach of peace. She is being held on a $25,000 bond at the York Correctional Institution and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Friday.

According to the Groton Town police, officers responded at 8:14 p.m. on Oct. 22 to the incident. A person, whose name was redacted from the report, said Greenberg had recently been evicted from her home and was sending nasty messages to a family member and was constantly showing up to berate the residents.

According to the report, an individual, whose name was redacted from the report, said Greenberg “appeared to be intoxicated and was acting erratically” during the Oct. 22 incident. The individual partially opened the door, and Greenberg tried to push the door open. The individual then braced himself in the doorway while Greenberg was “cussing and screaming.”

When Greenberg tried to push through the door, police say she put the tip of the knife on the victim’s cheek. She was then pushed away and the door was closed.

According to the report, police attempted to contact Greenberg multiple times and found her parked in her car in the lot of Starbucks on Poquonnock Road. Police found a smoking pipe in Greenberg’s vehicle, as well as a silver folding-style pocket knife, about 2.5 inches in length, with a black handle, in her possession.

According to the report, Greenberg told police that she had fallen on hard times and was upset that one of the victims would not give her money or help her. She told police that she pulled the knife on the victim because she was pushed. She also said that she was being held in the doorway and, when outside, was grabbed and kept from leaving.
