    Waterford crash sends two to hospital

    Waterford ― A two-car car accident Tuesday afternoon in the area of 969 Hartford Turnpike - the Henny Penny on Route 85 - sent both drivers to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, according to Waterford Police Lt. David Ferland.

    The preliminary investigation determined the head-on collision occurred at 4:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 85.

    The crash involved a Nissan Altima operated by Amanda Goodhind of Waterford and a Jeep Wrangler being driven by Gregory Wilbur of Waterford, police said.

    Ferland said it was a head-on collision but not directly, and police are still trying to figure out why one car was in the wrong lane.

    Members of the Waterford Police Department’s accident reconstruction team, with the assistance of East Lyme, are investigating the cause of the crash. The roadway in the area of where the crash occurred was closed until 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
