Norwich police arrest hit-and-run driver after second crash that night

Norwich – Police said the suspect in a hit and run crash with injuries in Norwich on Friday night was located about 15 minutes later after she hit an island barrier and street sign at a gas station in the city.

Police said Melissa Kaika, 30, of 17 Thamesview Road, was charged with two counts of evading responsibility, unsafe movement and failure to drive right.

According to police, three occupants in the vehicle rear-ended by Kaika around 11:17 p.m. in the area of West Main Street and Thames Street were taken to Backus Hospital with “minor to moderate” injuries. Police did not have an update on their condition Saturday night.

The second call came in at 11:35 p.m. from the Global gas station at 154 West Town St. Police located Kaika there, they said.
