Man struck by train in Mystic

Mystic ― A man sustained a serious leg injury on Sunday after he was struck by an Amtrak train near the Mystic train station.

Police responded at 8:05 p.m. to a 911 call from the train station on Roosevelt Avenue, Stonington Police Deputy Chief Todd Olson said.

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, appeared to be waiting for a westbound train that was approaching the station at a slow speed, Olson said.

Police provided no further details on how the man was hit and said the incident remains under investigation.

The man was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of his leg injury and head trauma, Olson said. He was conscious and alert while being treated by emergency medical responders at the scene.

Amtrak Northeast, on its Twitter feed, reported that Train 169 remained stopped at the Mystic train station for two hours because of a “trespasser incident.”
