    Woman struck in the head with a gun in New London

    New London ― A woman was injured during an assault Monday morning that police said involved at least one gunshot.

    At 6:52 a.m., police responded to the area of Eastern Avenue and Adelaide Street for reports of an assault. Police said they determined a man struck a woman in the head with a gun. The gun was fired during the assault, police said.

    Police said the gunshot did not strike the victim. She was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

    City police on Monday morning closed off a portion of Eastern Avenue in front of a multi-family home at 47 Eastern Ave. Police had cordoned off the front of the home with yellow crime scene tape.

    At 9 a.m., three officers were seen outside 47 Eastern Ave., searching a grassy area between the sidewalk and roadway. Police are investigating the incident and have not yet made an arrest.
