East Lyme – Police are investigating a one-vehicle crash Saturday that required emergency crews to extricate the injured driver.

Police responded at approximately 10:45 p.m. to Society Road for a report of a vehicle hitting a tree. The trapped driver, who was not identified by police, was removed from the vehicle by members of the Flanders and Niantic fire departments, police said.

The driver, the vehicle’s only occupant, was initially transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London before being transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, police said.

There was no immediate information on the driver’s condition.

Police said the crash is being investigated by the Shoreline Accident Reconstruction Team, made up of members of the East Lyme and Waterford police departments.
