Norwich man charged in theft of two vehicles worth more than $110,000

Norwich ― A domestic disturbance on Laurel Hill Road on Sunday led to arrest of a Norwich man wanted for stealing an SUV and pickup truck worth more than $110,000.

Jose Villanueva, 42, of 568 Laurel Hill Road, was initially charged with disorderly conduct on Sunday after a woman reported he was intoxicated and harassing her by poking her and making threatening remarks, police said.

Police said they discovered there was a warrant for Villanueva’s arrest stemming from an April 2022 investigation by Norwich police detectives into the theft of two vehicles reported stolen from New York.

During that investigation, police said Villanueva was found to be in possession of a stolen 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck worth $55,090 and a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee stolen from a car dealership in Newburgh, N.Y., and valued at $58,709, police reports show. Both vehicles were seized during the investigation.

Villanueva, held on $30,000 bond, is charged with two counts of first-degree larceny. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 10 in Norwich Superior Court.
