Man charged in fatal Old Lyme crash

Old Lyme ― State police on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old Oxford man on the charge of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle in connection with a fatal crash on Interstate 95 in Old Lyme last year.

Almando F. Dixon was charged by state police at Troop F in Westbrook following an investigation into an Oct. 15, 2022, crash that claimed the life of 52-year-old Michael S. Sansur of Milford, a high school teacher in Westport, and injured Sansur’s 21-year-old son, who was a passenger.

The crash occurred in the left lane of I-95 north between exits 70 and 71 where Sansur’s vehicle was stopped for an unknown reason. His Honda Accord was struck from behind by a Kia Stinger GT driven by Dixon. Prior to the crash, police said another vehicle had swerved to avoid Sansur’s vehicle and struck the center median.

Investigators determined Dixon was speeding, traveling between 76 and 83 mph.

Free on $50,000 bond, Dixon is charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, speeding and following too closely. Police said Dixon’s vehicle also had illegal tint on its windshield. He is due to appear Sept. 1 in New London Superior Court.

Negligent homicide with a motor vehicle is a punishable by up to three years in prison and a $3,500 fine.
