Police investigate crash involving state trooper in Mystic

Stonington ― Two people were treated at a hospital on Sunday when a police pursuit ended with a crash in Mystic, police said.

The crash occurred at 9:42 p.m. when a Connecticut State Police cruiser from Troop E in Montville collided with another vehicle in the area of Route 27 and Coogan Boulevard in the Mystic section of Stonington, police said.

A preliminary investigation by Stonington police determined the trooper had exited Interstate 95 at Exit 90 southbound and was traveling south on Route 27 when the police cruiser collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Coogan Boulevard.

Police said the cruiser veered into the Seaport Shell gas station parking lot after the collision and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle, police said.

The trooper and the operator of the second vehicle involved were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released.

The trooper involved, state police said, was part of a motor vehicle pursuit of a reported kidnapping suspect that had originated in Rhode Island and involved Rhode Island State Police.

Further details of the kidnapping investigation were not immediately available. State police said the suspect’s vehicle eluded police and was reported to have traveled back into Rhode Island.

Stonington police have not yet released the names of the people involved in the crash.
