    Clarkin named new Mystic fire chief

    Mystic ― The Mystic Fire Department has announced that it swore in Christopher Clarkin as its new fire chief/fire marshal on Thursday.

    In addition, Jay Alvaran was named assistant fire chief.

    Clarkin worked at the Old Mystic Fire Department from 2004 to 2019 and was then hired by the Mystic Fire Department. He has been certified as a fire marshal since 2005.

    Alvaran joined the department in 2015 and previously served as company lieutenant and captain. He was hired full-time by the Electric Boat Fire Department in 2017 and was promoted to captain in 2021.

    In 2023, he was hired as a firefighter with the Providence, R.I., Fire Department. He has received the following awards: CT State Firefighters Association Citation for Bravery, Mystic Fire Department Commendation of Merit, Mystic Fire Department Commendation of Valor, and a PARATECH Rescue Award for life-saving actions.
