Norwich man accused in 2020 shooting now charged with firing shots in New London

A 34-year-old Norwich man previously charged in a violent altercation at a hookah lounge was charged Friday with firing several shots in downtown New London late last year.

Raashid Cox, of 111 Laurel Hill Ave., No. 2, was charged by New London police with attempted first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment in connection with a Dec. 3 shooting in the area of Bank and Golden streets.

Police said they responded to the downtown area for a report of gunshots in which multiple rounds were fired. No one was injured, but two unoccupied vehicles were struck, police said.

At the time his arrest, Cox was free on a $250,000 bond set after he was charged in August 2022 for his role a shooting two years earlier at the Midnight Hookah Lounge in Groton, in which a man was shot in the arm.

Cox is being held on a $750,000 bond in the New London case, which police said was still active and may involve additional arrests. No court date for Cox was listed.
