    Woman, 88, in critical condition after being struck by car in New London

    New London ― An 88-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition after being struck by a car early Tuesday afternoon at the New London Shopping Center on South Frontage Road, police said.

    The driver, a 25-year-old woman, remained on scene and cooperated with police.

    Police said that according to their preliminary investigation, the woman was walking across the parking lot after leaving a business in the shopping center when she was struck.

    Police said they provided medical aid until firefighters and paramedics arrived.

    New London Fire Battalion Chief Reginald Hansen said the fire department was dispatched at 12:18 p.m. and the patient was taken to the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital emergency room.

    The police department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.

    Police ask anyone who witnessed the accident or who has information to contact the Detective Bureau at (860) 447-1481 or to submit anonymous information through the New London Tips 411 system.
