Police investigate another bomb threat made against Planet Fitness in Norwich
Norwich ― City police said they are investigating another potential bomb threat made against Planet Fitness at 42 Town St.
Lt. Nicholas Rankin said that just after 4 p.m. Monday, the gym was evacuated. Police checked with bomb-sniffing dogs and did not find anything. Nearby, Big Lots also opted to evacuate.
Police said they also checked a nearby Hartford Healthcare office after receiving information that it also received a potential threat, but that may have been a misunderstanding.
Rankin said city police were notified by state police after threats against three Planet Fitness locations in Connecticut came across the Channel 3 news desk.
On April 6, police responded to a “possible bomb threat” at the Planet Fitness on Town Street and multiple other locations in the state. City police and the Mohegan Tribal Police Department Canine Unit did not find a threat either inside or outside the building.
The Guardian recently reported that over “40 Planet Fitness locations across the country have received bomb threats after a conservative movement against the gym’s trans-inclusive locker room policy went viral online.”
