Norwich firefighters help trapped man, handle car crash
Norwich — City firefighters went all-hands-on-deck Friday morning, as a tractor rolled over a man’s foot in one part of the city while a driver crashed into parked cars in another.
Fire officials said the first call came in at 10:46 a.m. from 24 Court St. As a driver was trying to disconnect the trailer from a tractor-trailer unit, the rear tires of the tractor rolled onto his foot, trapping him.
Several crews responded to the scene. Within 10 minutes, officials said, firefighters had lifted the axle off the man’s foot and taken him to the William W. Backus Hospital. He sustained crushing injuries to his foot.
The next call came at 10:56 a.m., as crews were wrapping up on Court Street. A motorist had crashed into two parked cars and a part of the building at 92 Stonington Road, the Superior Auto Center.
It wasn’t immediately clear what led the driver to depart the roadway, but the driver refused medical attention. Building officials determined damage to the building was minor and not structural in nature.
