Voluntown man charged with threatening to blow up Newport Bridge

State police arrested a Voluntown man Sunday who police said threatened to blow up a Rhode Island bridge.
Paul D. Johnson, 35, of 116 Ekonk Hill Road, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and held at Troop E in Montville in lieu of a $1,000 bond. Second-degree breach of peace is a class B misdemeanor and punishable by up to six months in prison.
On Sunday, police said he called the Narragansett Police Department and stated he would blow up the Newport Bridge. Police said the time of his arrest was 7:37 a.m.
Johnson was taken into custody at his Voluntown home. Police provided no further information.
